ONLINE CLASSES
APRIL 1-MAY 11: “AWAKENING TO ONENESS: AN ONLINE COURSE ON NON-DUAL MEDITATION” A six-week course on the central idea, historical roots, and key practices of non-duality—AKA “oneness”—aimed at personally developing the tangible, lasting, and transformative experience of feeling one with all beings. Practice-oriented and with a daily life approach, the class is ideal for those beginning a meditation practice. Meditators from the Buddhist “insight” or other contemplative traditions may find that a non-dual approach reinvigorates their practice, making it one with their daily life. Participants receive daily emails including tips and techniques, guided meditation recordings, and further readings and references.
OCT 1-NOV 11: “AN INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION” A six-week online course for beginners of all levels. Practice-oriented, practical and in plain English, the course is based on four foundational relaxation skills, beginning with relaxation of the body, then of feelings, then of the mind, and finally to letting go of all stress, worry, and harmful mental habits. The course follows the meditation style described in “Relax and Be Aware: Mindfulness Meditation for Clarity, Confidence and Wisdom,” a book by Sayadaw U Tejaniya, which I edited. Participants receive daily emails including guided meditation recordings, daily life practices, and further readings and references.

ABOUT DOUG MCGILL
I’m a journalist turned meditator, dharma teacher, editor and writer. In 2004, I founded the Rochester Meditation Center in Rochester, MN, serving as its Guiding Teacher until 2020. In 2019, I edited “Relax and Be Aware: Mindfulness Meditations for Clarity, Confidence and Wisdom,” a guide to daily life meditation by the Burmese Buddhist monk and teacher, Sayadaw U Tejaniya. Since 2013, I have published "The Daily Tejaniya," a daily email practice reminder based on Sayadaw’s teachings. Since 2022, I’ve led a weekly online meeting, Monday Friends, offering dharma teachings, meditation and spiritual friendship. In addition, I offer several online retreats each year, such as “Awaken to Oneness,” in 2023. I first learned how to meditate as a New York Times staff reporter in the 1980s, when I needed to cope with the stress of daily newspaper journalism. On a holiday visit to Sri Lanka in 1995, I started practicing insight (“vipassana”) meditation; and in 2013, I met my non-dual teacher and friend, Rupert Spira, who taught me practices of oneness. This non-dual approach deepened my insight practice and, over time, became the meditation style that I share today.
